Soles 4 Souls

Green Concord members will be host to this charity opportunity for the month of August, 2010. Soles 4 Souls offers a simple way to help reduce the strain on our environment by collecting your "gently worn" footwear and donating them to people in need instead of throwing them away. Last year alone, Americans discarded more than 300 million pairs of shoes. When these shoes break down in our landfills, the toxic glue that holds the shoes together can leak into our water supply and atmosphere. Stop by your favorite Green Concord store during the month of August and drop off your unwanted shoes in the specified collections bins.To learn more about the charity click here: http://www.soles4souls.org/

Recycling at 36th Annual Market Days and Summer Music Festival

Green Concord will once again facilitate recycling at Concord’s 16th Annual Market Days and Summer Music Festival, July 15th-17th. Volunteers from Green Concord and from the Youth Environmental Service (YES) Team will help redirect plastic, tin, and glass containers from the landfill and into the recycling stream. Thanks to NH Distributors for letting us borrow from the Loudon Speed Way, we will have around Forty recycling barrels on the streets to offer people the choice to recycle. To see the complete schedule of events go to: http://www.mainstreetconcord.com/market-days.php

YES Team

The 2010 Summer Youth Environmental Service (YES) Team has been partially funded by Green Concord. This Summer experience, organized by Plus Time NH, organizes Environmental projects for eight of our local youth, helping them become better leaders, workers and community members, to improve many greenscapes around Concord. The program runs from June 21st - August 13th. If you see them out and about, please thank them for all the hard work they do to help keep Concord beautiful.

Green Living Series

In partnership with Red River Theatres, Green Concord presents monthly documentary films on various environmental and social issues important to today's communities. Green Concord hopes the presentation of these films to our local community will increase their level of awareness and understanding and than share that information with others. These screenings will typically be presented the second weekend of each month, with a special night dedicated to a post-film discussion panel. For more information, please refer to our calendar or join our facebook group.

Each is a perfect addition, and in support of our mission.”

PAYT (Pay As You Throw) Solid Waste Program Begins July 6th in Concord

Three Green Concord members will be selling the PAYT Bags in their stores (Concord Coop, Real Green Goods, and Your Home Your World). Each store will offer both sizes of the purple PAYT bags (30 gal/holds 20lbs & 15 gal/holds 10lbs). The 30 gallon bag is $2 per bag and the 15 gallon bag is $1 per bag. Bags are sold in a roll of 5.
